Yes, 100% free. Since all image decoding and encoding is done on your own device's CPU/GPU, we do not pay for heavy backend conversion servers. This allows us to keep the service free without any limits, watermarks, or registrations.
Why does JXL encoding take a few seconds?
JPEG XL utilizes highly advanced mathematical models for compression. Compiling these algorithms to WebAssembly allows them to run in browsers, but they are slightly slower than native desktop applications. We show progress loaders so you know it's working.
Can I use this on my mobile phone?
Yes! ezjxl.com is built with a responsive design, working smoothly on mobile screens. Note that mobile browser engines are slightly less performant than desktop environments, but standard conversions work perfectly.
